A New Home

07th January 2010
In November 09 I moved into rented accomodation at Ross on Wye. I only have a small garden but have managed to erect a feeder station and already I've had some interesting visitors.

Amongst the visitors have been, Coal tits, Long Tailed Tits, Goldfinch and a lone male Blackcap. This last visitor has proven to be a ittle of a bully and spends most of his visits chasing off the Robins, Blue and Great tits and the Dunnocks. I'm pleased to see him especially as now in the New Year the temperatures have dropped to as low as minus 5C.

I'm sure I dont have to remind any of you how important it is to be putting water out for the birds on a daily basis, they need it as much as the food.

The cold snap has virtually left me house-bound. The car park on which I park my car is on a slope and with the snow and ice I cannot get off it.

2009 was not a particularly good year for me birdingwise. I saw 20+ less species of bird than in 2008 although there were a few lifetime first for me including the Long billed Dowitcher and Puffins. I'm hoping for better in 2010. Watch this space as the saying goes.

Happy New Year.
